At Colleen Weber CPA, CFP®, everything we do comes back to one core purpose: helping our clients make confident decisions and build a life they’re proud of. One of the ways we stay true to that commitment is by continually strengthening our knowledge and sharpening our planning skills. That’s why I’m thrilled to share that Olivia Knapp has officially earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, CFP® certification.
Why the CFP® Certification Matters
In a world where there are hundreds of financial designations and credentials, the CFP® mark stands out for one big reason: it’s earned, not given.
The CFP® certification is widely considered the gold standard in financial planning because it requires advisors to demonstrate strong technical knowledge, real-world experience, and a commitment to ethical standards. CFP® professionals are trained across the major areas that impact your financial life, including retirement planning, investments, taxes, estate planning, insurance, and more.
It’s a credential that signals both competence and commitment, and it helps clients feel confident they’re working with someone who has proven experience, not just a sales title.
Obtaining the CFP® Is Not Easy
Many people don’t realize how rigorous the CFP® certification process is. It requires a significant investment of time, disciplined study, and a sustained commitment to meeting high professional standards.
To become a CFP® professional, candidates must meet demanding standards in four key areas:
- Education: Complete approved coursework in financial planning topics and hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Examination: Pass a comprehensive CFP® exam that tests financial planning knowledge and real-life decision-making. (In November 2025, the CFP® exam pass rate was 64%.)
- Experience: Fulfill professional experience requirements before earning the right to use the CFP® marks.
- Ethics: Agree to strict ethical standards and undergo background checks as part of certification.
In other words, Olivia didn’t just “get” a credential. She earned it through dedication, perseverance, and a deep commitment to mastering this work.
A Credential Few Advisors Hold
Another reason this is such a meaningful milestone is because CFP® professionals are still the minority in our industry. As of the end of 2025, there are 107,529 CFP® professionals in the United States, according to the CFP Board.
That number may sound large, but when you consider how many people call themselves “financial advisors” (around 300,000), the CFP® designation remains a strong differentiator and a meaningful signal of advanced training.
What This Means for You As a Client
Credentials aren’t just fancy letters after someone’s name; they represent what goes on behind the scenes.
When you work with someone who has earned the CFP® certification, you’re working with a professional who has been trained to look at your financial life as a whole, not as a collection of separate decisions. That kind of holistic planning can be especially valuable when life gets complex (which it often does).
Here are a few ways CFP® training can show up in real life:
- Clearer planning across multiple areas of your finances: Retirement decisions, investment strategy, tax planning, insurance needs, and estate considerations are all connected.
- Better decision-making during major life transitions: Whether you’re changing careers, preparing for retirement, inheriting money, selling a business, or planning for a family milestone, advice needs to be coordinated.
- More confident conversations when the stakes are high: A strong plan doesn’t mean going after a specific account balance; it’s making informed decisions with your future in mind.
Olivia’s CFP® certification reflects her ability to support clients through these kinds of decisions with more depth, clarity, and confidence. Learn more about Olivia here.
A Commitment to Ongoing Learning
Earning the CFP® certification is a huge achievement, but it’s also part of a bigger culture we value at Colleen Weber CPA, CFP®. Financial planning isn’t static, and neither is the world your plan has to operate in. Rules change, markets shift, and life evolves.
That’s why we believe ongoing education matters. It helps us stay sharp, stay current, and continue serving clients with a higher level of care and experience.
I’m grateful to have Olivia on our team, and I’m excited to see the impact she’ll continue making for the clients and families we serve. If you’d like to work with a team that values thoughtful planning, continuing education, and long-term guidance, I’d love to connect.
